サイコオンコロジーの重要性—現状と今後の展望

はじめに—わが国の疾病構造におけるがんの位置付け
がんは1981年にわが国の死亡原因の第1位となり，以降もその座は変わらず，現在では，がんによる死亡者数は年間37万人を超え，総死亡の約30%を占めるに至っている。また超高齢社会を迎えた今，年間100万人以上が新たにがんと診断されている。現在は，わが国の国民のうち2人に1人が生涯においてがんを経験する時代である。がん治療は飛躍的に進歩し，がん患者の5年生存率が約50%にまで向上したが，最も頻度の高い致死的な疾患であることに変わりはない。したがって，がんは国民病という位置付けがなされており，国も疾病対策として最も力を入れていることから，2007年にはがん対策基本法が制定された。
