患者-医師間のコミュニケーションの重要性
　コミュニケーションとは，社会生活を営む人間間での，言語・文字その他視覚・聴覚に訴えるものを媒介として行われる知覚・感情・思考の伝達(言語的コミュニケーション)であり，また動物個体間での身振りや音声・匂いなどによる情報の伝達(非言語的コミュニケーション)である¹³⁾。医療におけるコミュニケーションにおいては，患者や家族から言語的に症状を聴取したり，医療情報を伝えるなどの言語的コミュニケーションに加え，表情や身振りなどから病状を認識したり，気持ちを汲み取るなど，非言語的コミュニケーションも重要である。
　インフォームドコンセントを前提とする医療においては，患者に対して心身の状態と検査や治療といったこれから行われる医療行為について十分説明を行い，きちんと理解したことを確認し，患者自らの自由意思に基づいて医療者と合意が求められる。
