はじめに
 睡眠不足や睡眠障害は,うつ病などの精神疾患や,生活習慣病などの身体疾患と密接に関連することが知られている。また,日中の眠気や注意力・集中力の低下などを引き起こすため,交通事故や産業事故を引き起こす原因ともなる。こうしたことから,現代社会に大きな経済的損失をもたらす健康上の重要な問題と考えられており6),社会的にも学問的にも重要な関心事項として注目されている。本稿では不眠症および睡眠薬使用の疫学研究に着目し,これまでに得られた知見を概説する。
