抄録　ベンゾジアゼピン受容体作動薬と自動車運転については，日本のみならず諸外国においても関心が高まっている。特に欧州を中心に実施されてきた疫学研究や実験的研究からは，向精神薬の中でも交通事故や運転技能低下をもたらす可能性の高い薬剤として認識されている。抗不安薬としても睡眠薬としてもリスクが高いことが示されており，血中消失半減期，投与量，服薬してから運転するまでの時間といった要因が運転技能に影響するが，その影響を十分に予測できるような臨床指標は知られていない。耐性が生じる可能性は示唆されているが，個人差も大きく長期使用における運転への影響は結論付けられていない。丁寧なリスクコミュニケーションに加え，適正処方が不可欠であり，運転適性については細心の注意と個別的な判断が必要である。
