はじめに
　臨床医にとって，診療ガイドラインはどのようなものか—「ガイドラインに書いてあることなど，目の前の患者に当てはめられるわけがない」，「ガイドライン通りに診療しないと何かあった時，患者に訴えられる」など，診療ガイドラインをめぐるさまざまな意見を耳にする。もちろん，診療ガイドラインは目の前の患者の治療方針を教えてくれる明快な便利本ではないが，多忙な臨床医が最新のエビデンスを収集し，それをアップデートしていくことは難しく，臨床医や患者に分かりやすい形にまとめ，治療選択に関するエビデンスを提供し，治療推奨を示してくれる診療ガイドラインは便利なツールである。本稿では，臨床医が上手に診療ガイドラインを活用することを念頭に，まず診療ガイドラインの基本について概説し，診療ガイドラインの質を吟味する上で重要となる評価のポイントについて述べる。
