ジェンダーの脳科学

抄録　脳の性差に関して最初に提唱されたのはその大きさである。直感的に分かるように男性の脳が大きい。しかし，人間より大きな脳を持つ動物が存在するため大きければ能力が高いとはいえない。19世紀から重さや，さまざまな領域，fMRIを使った脳の活動などの研究で脳の男女差を示してきたが，現在までの知見では，男女で有意差のある部分でも男女で重なり合う領域が多いというものである。また，脳はホルモンやストレスによってその構造が変化し，変化は男女によって違いがあり，男性的な特徴が女性的な特徴に変化したり，男女に二分化できないような変化を生じることも報告されている。さらに，最新の研究としては，男女で有意差のある部分を個々の人の脳に当てはめると男性的な部分と女性的な部分が全体としてモザイクになっているという説が提唱されている。
