A 神経発達症においては，不眠，過眠，睡眠覚醒リズムの乱れなどの睡眠障害が，小児・成人いずれも半数以上にみられると報告されており，生活の質や社会適応への影響，家族の心理的ストレスが生じます。睡眠の問題によって，神経発達症（様）の症状が悪化する可能性も指摘されています。遺伝学的研究などによって神経発達症と睡眠障害の共通基盤も明らかにされつつあります。睡眠に関する適切な聴取と診断・治療が，神経発達症の正確な診断・評価とマネジメントのためにも必須です。
