A 摂食障害と発達障害の合併例で治療が困難となるのは，発達障害の特性による治療効果の減弱，それに伴う摂食障害・飢餓状態の長期化と二次的な発達障害の特性のさらなる強化，という悪循環が生じていることが影響しています。特に成人の場合は摂食障害が慢性化している例が多く，生来の特性か摂食障害に伴う二次的な症状かの判別はより難しくなります。発達障害の特性を踏まえた治療を組み立てることが重要です。
