　物質およびアルコール使用障害の診断・治療において臨床検査によって重症度を測ったりその予後を判断したりすることはできないが，関連する身体的問題のスクリーニングにおいては重要な要素となる。血液検査は患者本人からの拒否がない限りはルーティンで行うべきだが，対象物質が違法薬物である場合は，薬物を検出する目的ではないことを患者に伝えるのを忘れないようにしたい。物質使用障害の診断スクリーニングとしてはCAGE-AIDに沿った問診が容易であり，本稿で紹介したので参考にしていただきたい。他に症状やそれに起因する問題を把握する手法のほか，医療者が物質使用障害の問題に向き合う姿勢やチーム医療の重要性について概説した。
