摂食症（摂食障害）における性差

　摂食症（摂食障害）はさまざまな合併症を伴い，致死率も高い重篤な精神疾患であり，主に思春期から青年期に発症し，女性に圧倒的に多い。性差が生じる原因は，遺伝や認知機能，脳内報酬系回路，性ホルモンなどの生物学的要因と，やせ願望を助長する家族や友人，メディアなどの社会文化的要因の相互作用によるものと考えられているが，まだ明らかにはなっていない。摂食症の重症度は，特に若年患者では女性のほうがより重症であり，女性はやせ願望が強いのに対し，男性はより筋肉質な体型を望むという特徴がある。一方，食事制限や代償行為などの摂食症症状については男女間に有意差はなく，治療に対しても同様に反応することが知られている。有病率の差から女性患者が注目されることが多い疾患であるが，近年男性の摂食症患者の増加が報告されているため，男性例を見逃さないようにすることも重要である。
