 統合失調症は長期にわたって精神活動,認知機能や社会機能に多様な影響を及ぼす精神疾患であるが,罹患した男性と女性を比較すると,発症年齢,精神症状,認知機能,社会機能などへの影響の現れ方に異なる特徴が認められることが知られている。このような男女差が生じるメカニズムについては不明な点が多い。本稿では,統合失調症の表現型の現れ方に認められる性差に関する知見を概説し,その性差の背景となる筆者らの研究成果も含め,遺伝子要因,環境要因,性ホルモン,炎症性メカニズムなどの観点から統合失調症に認められる性差のメカニズムについて検討する。
