　「治療を終える（治療終結）」は，診療の受診者と医療者との間にジレンマを引き起こし，課題が多く存在する。目の前にいる受診者の治療終結が可能であるか否かを医療者が判断する以前に，受診者は治療目標の達成や，よりよい形での治療終結を望んでいる。本稿では，受診者とともに「治療を終える」を診療で話題にすること自体は治療初期から可能であるという視座に立ち，「治療を終える」に向き合うことを試みた。治療プロセスの中で，受診者と医療者が「治療を終える」とはどのような状態であるかについて協働的に検討することは，医療者が自身の不安やリスクへの懸念を理由に何も講じないよりも，その利点は大きい可能性がある。受診者と医療者がともに治療終結に向かうことを可能にするために重要なことは，「治療を終える」を話題にする時期や必要な配慮・視点を踏まえて，医療者が「治療を終える」を信じることかもしれない。
