　精神と心臓の相互作用は，医学の黎明期から知られており，何世紀にもわたって医学および非医学文献に記述されてきた。日本語の“心”は多義的に用いられ，“精神”という意味も“心臓”という意味も含んだ抽象的な概念を持ち，日本語を母語として使ってきた多くの日本人は，精神と心臓の相互作用を感覚的に経験しているかもしれない。
　サイコカルディオロジーの語源は，精神科医のJefferson JWが提唱した“Psychocardiology”が始まりである。時代背景や社会背景によって，その接点領域で注目される内容や程度は異なる。
　本稿では，サイコカルディオロジーに関して，いくつかの観点から概説するとともに，わが国のサイコカルディオロジー領域におけるコンサルテーション・リエゾン（C-L）精神医学の可能性に関して，循環器専門施設での臨床経験も交えて考察する。
