A 38-year-old woman visited the Department of Surgery, Cancer Institute Hospital for a detailed examination of the stomach. She was examined with x-ray at the other hospital on December 7, 1977, and some abnormality was pointed out. There was nothing in particular in her family history. Appendectomy was done at the age of 17, and oophorectomy was done at the age of 34, Physical examination was normal. Laboratory findings, including blood count, blood chemistry and urinalysis were within normal limits. Occult blood test was negative. Gastric juice analysis showed hypoacidity. Chest x-ray was normal.
The diagnosis of IIc type early cancer on the posterior wall of the incisura region was made by the first endoscopy done on December 22, 1977 and by the first x-ray done on December 27, 1977. The second endoscopy was done on January 12, 1978 (Figs. 9, 10), and biopsy revealed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (adenocarcinoma scirrhosum).
