There was nothing in particular in his past history and family history. Physical examination was normal. Laboratory findings, including blood count, blood chemistry and urinalysis were within normal limits. Occult blood test of the stool was negative.
The diagnosis of Ⅱc type early cancer at the posterior wall of the antrum was made by the first x-ray examination done on March 1, 1972. The second x-ray examination was done on March 15, 1972, and invasion of cancer was estimated to be limited to the mucosal membrane, based on the fact that there was no rigidity of the lesion, which altered its form by changing volume of air.
