　Cowden病は特徴的な皮膚粘膜病変と全身諸臓器の過誤腫性ないし腫瘍性病変による多彩な臨床像を呈する常染色体優性遺伝性疾患である．消化管では高率にポリポーシスを合併し，特に食道，胃，遠位大腸に多発するポリープが特徴的である．この病変分布は他の遺伝性消化管ポリポーシスとの鑑別点として重要な所見である．組織学的には過形成もしくは過誤腫の像を呈することが多い．近年，第10番染色体のPTEN遺伝子が本症の原因遺伝子として同定され，その機能解析が進められている．
