VS classification

　狭帯域光観察（narrow-band imaging；NBI）を拡大内視鏡観察に併用すると顕微鏡レベルの様々な解剖学的構造が視覚化できる．拡大内視鏡により視覚化される解剖学的構造を，微小血管構築像〔microvascular pattern；V（本特集号vascular patternを参照）〕と表面微細構造〔microsurface pattern；S（本特集号surface patternを参照）〕に分けて解析し，一定の診断規準に照らし合わせて診断する診断体系をVS（vessel plus surface）classification systemと称する^1）2）．

　癌・非癌を鑑別するためのVS classification systemは，VとSそれぞれについて，regular（整）/irregular（不整）/absent（視認できない）と分類する（Fig. 1）．そして，これらの所見を統合し，下記の診断規準に基づいて，癌・非癌の診断をする．
