要旨●免疫組織化学的手法が病態解析や病理診断に取り入れられるようになって久しい．免疫染色技術の進歩，諸種抗体の市販化，マーカーの意義に関する知識の普及，機能形態学的な解析ニーズの増加，分子標的治療の導入，より正確な病理診断への期待と意欲など，さまざまな要因が挙げられる．しかし，免疫染色は決して万能ではない．免疫染色などしなければよかった，という経験を通して，症例から一つひとつ学んでゆく姿勢が問われる場面も少なくない．マーカーの特異性を信じすぎて痛い目にあった経験の積み重ねを大切にしたい．本稿では，免疫染色の技術面での工夫や落とし穴を，筆者の経験を中心に解説する．
