要旨●頭頸部を含む扁平上皮領域における早期癌の診断は，NBIの開発によって飛躍的に向上した．NBI観察時に拾い上げの指標となる淡い発赤領域の要因である，拡張したIPCLのほかに，血管周囲の上皮の色調変化に焦点をあて，その成因について検討・考察した．NBI陽性となる原理であるHbあるいは類似の成分の存在を疑って検討を行い，癌細胞内のHb含有および産生能の可能性について概説する．
