疾患の概念
　食道平滑筋腫は，食道では最も頻度の高い粘膜下腫瘍（submucosal tumor ; SMT）である．食道のGIMT（gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumor）の約90%を占めることが明らかとなっている^1）．一般的に無症状であり，健康診断や他疾患の精査中に偶然発見されることが多い．病理組織学的には，紡錘形細胞が束状に交錯し，細胞密度が低く，核分裂像をほとんど認めない．免疫組織染色では，α-SMAとdesminが強陽性であり，CD34，KITおよびS-100蛋白が陰性であることで診断される．
