概念・定義
　Torlakovicら^1）2）は1996年にHP（hyperplastic polyp）の中に癌を合併する亜型が存在することを見い出し，2003年にSSA（sessile serrated adenoma）という名称を提案した．SSAに含まれるadenomaという用語と病理組織像の実情が合致していない，すなわち核腫大を認めるものの，その腫大は均一でなく，腫瘍性か否かが病理形態学的に認識は困難であるとの立場からそれらはsessile serrated polyp，sessile polyp with abnormal proliferation，atypical hyperplastic polypなどの名称で報告されていた．これらの病変はWHO分類2010 ^3）でSSA/P（sessile serrated adenoma/polyp）として用語の統一化が図られることとなった．
　本邦ではSSA/Pは，“明らかな腫瘍とは判定できない鋸歯状病変で，①陰窩の拡張，②陰窩の不規則分岐，③陰窩底部の水平方向への変形（逆T字，L字型）のうち2因子以上を，病変の10%以上の領域に認めるもの”と定義されている^4）．
