　これまでにIBD（inflammatory bowel disease）の生検分組織類がいくつか提唱されている．代表的な潰瘍性大腸炎の活動性の組織学的評価法としては，古くはMatts組織分類（1961年）があり^1）2），その後Rileyら（1991年）^3）は新たな評価項目として，粘液減少，腺管構造不整，表層上皮破壊を追加採用し，その後Geboesスコア（2000年）^4），Nancyインデックス（2017年）^5），Robartsインデックス（2017年）^6），IBD-DCA（IBD distribution, chronicity, activity）スコア（2021年）^7）が提唱されてきた．
　それぞれの評価項目のうち慢性炎症細胞浸潤，好中球浸潤（間質・上皮内），びらん・潰瘍はほぼ共通して採用されているが，好酸球浸潤，陰窩膿瘍，粘液減少，basal plasmacytosis，腺管破壊，表層上皮破壊の採用は評価法により異なっている（Table 1）^8）．これらのうち比較的よく用いられているMatts分類（Table 2）^1）2），Geboesスコア（Table 3）^4），Nancyインデックス（Table 4）^5）に加え，最新の評価法としてIBD-DCAスコア（Table 5）^7）を概説する．
