定義
　小腸型上皮（吸収細胞，杯細胞，Paneth細胞）への分化を示す腫瘍を腸型形質腫瘍，胃型上皮（腺窩上皮，幽門腺・頸部粘液細胞，胃底腺細胞）への分化を示す腫瘍を胃型形質腫瘍と呼ぶ（Table 1）．両者の形質を併せ持つ胃腸混合型腫瘍，逆に胃型・腸型分化の明らかでない無形質腫瘍も存在する．
