変形性膝関節症の疫学

　変形性膝関節症（膝OA）は，common diseaseであり，本症の発症と進行には多くの因子が関わっている．膝OAの発症と進行のメカニズムやそれに関わる危険因子，さらに疾患自体の自然経過を明らかにする目的での疫学的研究は極めて重要であり，これまでに欧州や米国，そして日本でも様々な疫学調査が行われてきた．これらの研究から，膝OAに影響する因子として，年齢，性別，人種，体重，膝外傷・手術の既往，下肢筋力，膝内反アライメントおよびスラスト運動，骨粗鬆症，性ホルモン，職業・日常活動性・生活習慣，喫煙，ビタミンなどの微量栄養素，代謝性疾患，遺伝子など多くの内容が挙げられている．しかし，これらの因子のうち影響のメカニズムを含めて明らかになっているものは少なく，今後多方面からのさらなる研究が必要と考えられる．
