はじめに

　本邦では1980年代にメチシリン耐性黄色ブドウ球菌のアウトブレイクが全国的に拡大し，院内感染という概念が広く認識され，感染制御が注目されるようになった．しかし当時は有効な感染制御法が示されておらず，慣習的な方法に頼らざるを得なかった．1996年に米国Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC)が「Guideline for Isolation Precautions in Hospitals」を，1999年には「Guideline for Prevention of Surgical Site Infection」^8）を発表したことをきっかけに，日本においても従来から行われてきた外科臨床における感染制御の手法が，科学的根拠に基づいた対策へと転換した．しかし，いまだに慣習的な方法を変えられずにいる施設や対策があることも事実である．

　本稿では，手術時手洗い，ドレープ・ガウン，手術時手袋につき最近の動向を概説する．
