　FAIの診断における画像評価は，その特徴的な骨形態によりインピンジメントを来す疾患概念であることを踏まえ，臨床症状と合致するかどうかが重要である．画像診断には単純X線所見が最も簡便かつ有用であり，Pincer type，Cam typeそれぞれにいくつかの特徴的な所見があるが，症状を呈さない健常者にもみられることをよく理解する必要がある．また2次元的な評価には限界があり，CTを用いた3次元的な評価や，実際に衝突するかどうかのインピンジメントシミュレーションも診断や治療を計画するうえで有用である．
