Metal-on-metal (MOM) surface replacement arthroplasty

　MOM(金属対金属)人工関節の優れた点が評価される時代がやってきた．しかし，これが，また新たな問題を惹き起こしている．MOM人工関節における摩耗粉と，これに由来する生体内金属イオンへの懸念である．人工関節の登録制度のある国—英語圏でMOM人工関節のリコール問題が起きた．2009年末にThe Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry(AOANJRR)が早期再手術例の頻度が高いことで警告を発し，DePuy ASRなどにMOM implants使用停止を勧告した．米国や英国がこれに続いた．

　元来，ポリエチレンの摩耗粉による人工関節周囲の異物反応と骨吸収，その結果としてのimplantの緩みを回避すべくMOM人工関節に切り替えたのであるが，金属粉にも炎症と痛みを伴う例が少なくないことがわかった．
