外反母趾診療の歴史

1950年代の病理解剖学的研究により外反母趾における母趾中足趾節(母趾MTP)関節とその周辺組織の形態や組織的異常が明らかとなった．同じ頃，X線学的研究により外反母趾角や第1-第2中足骨間角が考案され，変形の病態や程度が定量的に評価できるようになった．これらの基礎的研究成果は，その後の外反母趾診療の発展に多大な貢献をした．1950年以前の手術療法の多くは母趾MTP関節部の処置によるものであったが，その後，第1中足骨骨切りと遠位軟部組織処置を組み合わせた術式が次々と開発され，今日では骨切り部位により遠位，骨幹および近位に分類され，外反母趾矯正術の主流となっている．
