Ⅰ．はじめに

　EBウイルス（Epstein-Barr virus,以下，EBV）は，1964年にEpsteinとBarrらによりバーキットリンパ腫の培養細胞中に発見された。彼らは，バーキットリンパ腫の器官培養からリンパ芽球様細胞株を樹立，電子顕微鏡によって細胞中にヘルペスウイルスに似たウイルスを発見し，このウイルスはがんウイルスとして注目された^1,2）。その後の研究により，バーキットリンパ腫，上咽頭癌，ホジキン病，胃癌，NK/Tリンパ腫といった悪性腫瘍や血球貪食症候群，慢性活動性EBウイルス感染症，自己免疫疾患などとのかかわりが明らかとなってきている^3）。本稿では，EBウイルス感染の基本的事項を示すとともに耳鼻咽喉科領域の代表的疾患について述べる。
