定義・概念

　1973年にQuanとSmith^1）によって提唱されたもので，椎骨異常（vertebral defects），鎖肛（anal atresia），食道閉鎖を伴う気管食道瘻（tracheoesophageal fistura with esophageal atresia），橈骨あるいは腎臓の異形成（radial and renal dysplasia）の頭字語をとって命名された奇形の連合である。このうち3つの症状があればVATER連合と診断する。現在は疾患概念を拡大して，心奇形（cardiac malformation），四肢奇形（limb anomalies）を加えてVACTERL連合とも称される^2）。
