外鼻と通気性

Ⅰ．はじめに

　従来よりわが国の鼻科学における関心の中心は鼻腔，副鼻腔にあって，一般に外鼻自体が臨床上，興味を向けられることは少なかったように思う。外鼻はむしろ美容形成外科的な診療対象として，形成外科が主体的に対処している施設も少なくないのではないか。

　しかし外鼻に対するrhinoplastyの目的は美容形成的な目的のみでなく，鼻腔通気性の改善とも強く関連しており，鼻科学の専門科である耳鼻咽喉科医はこの分野にもっと強い関心を向けるべきである。本稿では外鼻が鼻腔通気性に及ぼす役割とその評価方法について述べ，治療法についても触れる。
