Ⅰ　はじめに

　現在，日本には800万人あるいは最近では2,200万人，もしくはそれ以上のドライアイ患者がいるとの報告がある。ドライアイ患者が増えている理由の一つにはドライアイの世間への認知が高まり，受診が増えたり，診断が増えたりしているためと思われる。

　また，ドライアイは1995年にドライアイ研究会から定義と診断基準が作成され^1），その後2006年に「さまざまな要因による涙液および角結膜上皮の慢性疾患であり，眼不快感や視機能異常を伴う」と定義の改定が行われた^2）。ドライアイは症候群であり，その原因疾患が非常に多岐にわたるとともに環境の変化に伴い，ドライアイ人口も変化していると考えられる。

　ドライアイの現状を踏まえつつ，現在までに解明されているドライアイの病態，診断のポイント，最新治療について示させていただく。
