Ⅰ はじめに
扁桃病巣疾患における最近のトピックスとしては，第一に，IgA腎症に対する扁桃摘出術（以下，扁摘と略す）の有効性が2011年に腎臓内科医が中心に行った全国多施設前向き比較調査によって，統計学的にも証明されたこと1）であろう。現在では腎臓内科の分野においても，本疾患の標準的治療法の一つとして広く認められるようになった。また，掌蹠膿疱症に対する扁摘の有効性も皮膚科の分野においても広く認められている。新たな扁桃病巣疾患としてPFAPA症候群が注目されるようになり，扁摘の有効性はわが国のみならず欧米においても証明されている。
新しい治療法として，コブレータやマイクロデブリッターなどの新しい手術器具を用いた扁摘やアデノイド切除術が開発され，その有用性が報告されるようになった。
本号では筆者が扁桃病巣疾患の最近のトピックスについて総論として紹介したあと，各分野でのエキスパートに概説していただく。
