徒手理学療法とは何か？

　世界理学療法連盟のサブグループである，国際整形徒手理学療法士連盟（International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists：IFOMPT）は徒手理学療法を「徒手的な技術と治療的な運動を含む高度に特異的な治療アプローチを用いた，臨床推論に基づく，神経筋骨格系の状態をマネジメントするための理学療法の専門領域」と定義している．すなわち身体の各部位を揉んだり，押したり，引っ張ったりという行為のみを指して徒手理学療法と言うのではないことをあらためてご理解いただきたい．
