ヘルスリテラシーの定義と日本の状況

　ヘルスリテラシーとは，健康情報を入手し，理解し，評価し，意思決定するというプロセスを踏むための4つの力である^1）．意思決定とは2つ以上の選択肢から1つを選ぶことであり，そもそも選択肢がなければ行えない．理学療法においては，主に治療の選択肢に焦点が当たることになる．

　ヘルスリテラシーの測定では，一人ひとりの力のみならず，例えそれがなくても意思決定できるような支援が得られる環境にあるかにも注目されている．欧州8か国の調査では，ヘルスリテラシーに困難がある人は約半数を占めたが^2），日本でもその割合は約85％と高くなっていた^3）．さらにアジアの6つの国・地域でも測定され^4），平均点（50点満点）を比較すると日本の値はどの国・地域よりも低い状況にあった．
