ブレインリソースの現状―新潟大学脳研究所の取り組み

はじめに

　ブレインバンクが成り立つためには，当然のことながら，神経系の病理解剖業務が必須である。新潟大学脳研究所は，1960年代半ばには既にこうした業務を行う体制が構築されており，1970年代中頃からは生鮮凍結脳組織を保存する試みを開始した。以来40年余，幸いなことにこうした取り組みを継続することができている。この間サイエンスの発展とともに，凍結組織をはじめとし，適切に保存されたヒト脳組織の有用性は広く認識されるようになった。本稿では，われわれが所属する新潟大学脳研究所のブレインリソースの現状を紹介したい。

　本稿の内容は，神経系の剖検を行っておられる施設の病理医にとっては，代わり映えのしないよく知っている業務の紹介が多分に含まれているものと思われる。その一方で，さまざまな立場の方々からの施設見学依頼を受けて，われわれの取り組み状況をご覧いただくと，臨床医や基礎研究者ばかりではなく，病理医からも参考になったとの感想をいただくことも多い。そこで，本稿ではわれわれが取り入れてきたささやかな工夫やアイデアを含め紹介することとした。
