はじめに

　普段の生活において，われわれは広い空間の中を自由に行き来している。初めて訪れた場所は除いて，行き慣れた場所であれば何も考えなくても迷うことなくその場所まで移動できる。いわゆるナビゲーションと呼ばれるこの行動をわれわれの脳はどのようにコントロールしているのであろうか。最近のわれわれの研究で，頭頂葉内側面がナビゲーションに重要な役割を果たしていることがわかってきた。本稿は佐藤暢哉博士（現，関西学院大学文学部准教授）との共同研究の成果をまとめたものである。
