Ⅰ.こころの「現在」の幅

 1977年にデビューしたシンガーソングライター,渡辺真知子の「迷い道」の冒頭は,「現在・過去・未来」という印象的なフレーズで始まる。私たちの誰もが,この歌詞に象徴されるように,現在・過去・未来の区別を了解して暮らしている。この私たちが共有する時間の意識を「こころの時間」と呼ぶことにしよう。

 この三者の中で,圧倒的な存在感を示すのが「過去」である。生まれてこの方のおびただしい記憶はいうまでもなく,「シベリアの凍土からマンモスが発見された」と聞けば,自分の生年をはるかにさかのぼって,マンモスが牙を振りかざしていた数万年前にこころは旅する。100億年前のビッグバンですら,繰り返し聞くうちに,身近に感じられるほどである。「未来」は過去に比べれば影が薄いかもしれない。それでも新聞の紙面をにぎわすアベノミクスの効果は2年後に確かめることになっているし,地球温暖化の影響や石油資源の枯渇は数十年の幅で語られる。
