本特集は，本年がアセチルコリン発見の100周年となることから企画されたものである。いまさらアセチルコリン，という読者も多いかもしれない。しかしながら，アセチルコリンほど，古くて新しい分子はなく，今でもさまざまな生理機能や疾患を議論するうえで重要なことに気づかされる。
