臨床試験のエビデンスを理解するためには，統計学の知識が不可欠である。本論では，盲検化，FAS-ITTの原則，事前に指定されたエンドポイント，サブグループ解析，欠損値の扱い方，サンプルサイズの計算，グローバルスタディの適用性，非劣性試験，メタアナリシスについて説明する。また，最近行われたアルツハイマー病治療薬としてのaducanumabの大規模臨床試験の統計的側面についても解説する。
