文献概要

迷走神経刺激（vagus nerve stimulation：VNS）は，欧米では難治性のてんかんだけでなくうつ病に対して行われている治療法である。本邦では難治性てんかんに対して保険適用があるが，うつ病に関しての臨床応用はほとんど進められていない。そこで本論では，これまでのVNSの歴史を振り返り，海外のうつ病に対する先行研究について紹介する。そして最後にうつ病と関連したVNSの治療効果メカニズム仮説について取り上げる。
