マリー失調症を巡るmissing links—つながったlinkとまだつながらないlink

　臨床像と病理像を基盤に疾患単位が確立されてくるのが基本だが，脊髄小脳変性症の場合，複数の病変が複数の臨床症状を呈するので，個々の症状から病変部位を想定していくという対応がしばしば困難である。さらに，マリー失調症の場合は同一家系内でも臨床像の多様性があり，病理像も均質ではないので，疾患単位として確立しにくい。

　本論ではマリー失調症の疾患概念の成立と変遷を原著にさかのぼって問い直し，いったん散逸したかにみえたマリー失調症の概念が，マシャド・ジョセフ病（Machado-Joseph disease：MJD）として再認識されるようになっていく過程をふりかえり，今後に残された問題を考えてみたい。
