C型肝炎の治療に用いられる直接型抗ウイルス薬（direct acting antivirals : DAAs）の1つで、核酸型NS5Bポリメラーゼ阻害薬に分類される。レジパスビルと併用すること（ハーボニー^®配合錠）で、「ゲノタイプ1」に対しては耐性遺伝子変異によらず高い有効性を示し、12週間で治療を完遂できる。2018年には、「ゲノタイプ2」に対してもハーボニー^®配合錠の適応が確定された。
