ICUでの血行動態評価では、超音波検査での「RUSH exam」（心臓や下大静脈、大動脈など5カ所を評価し、「ショック」や「低血圧」の原因を検索）や「BLUE protocol」（6カ所から両肺を観察し、肺炎・気胸・肺水腫などの「呼吸不全」の原因を検索）を用いることを検討する必要がある。また、パルスオキシメーターを用いた毛細血管再充満時間の代用法は、重症患者の循環動態を迅速に評価できる可能性があり、再現性を含むエビデンスの蓄積が待たれる。
