　本稿では都市のプライマリ・ケアに関する研究について概説する。ここでは大きく3つのパートに分けて、この課題について論じることとする。1つ目は「都市とは何か？」である。本特集全体では特に「都市」というものを定義しておらず、個々の執筆者に委ねているが、研究として都市のプライマリ・ケアを扱う場合には何らかの定義や条件が必要となる。2つ目は「都市のプライマリ・ケアの特徴」である。国や地域によって「都市」で提供される医療はさまざまであるが、これまで挙げられてきた都市のプライマリ・ケアのある程度共通した特徴について述べる。最後は「都市のプライマリ・ケアに関する研究の実際」とする。大枠を提示したうえで、実際にどのような研究があるかを例示する。
