・僧帽弁閉鎖不全症は，primary MR（器質性逆流）とfunctional MR（機能性逆流）に分類され，さらに最近ではfunctional MRのなかでも心房性機能性逆流が注目されるようになっている．
・primary MRとfunctional MRは，逆流の成り立ち，患者背景，治療方針の決め方，治療方法に至るまで，まったく違う疾患と言ってよいほど大きく異なる性質をもっている．
・経皮的僧帽弁形成術などの新しい治療法が発展してきており，診断のみならず治療面でも心エコーの役割が増している．
