食事蛋白質摂取量は,窒素バランスの理論を応用して,排泄される尿素窒素量から次の式により算出できる.食事蛋白質摂取量(g/day)=[尿素窒素排泄率(g/day)+0.031×体重(kg)]×6.25.腎機能正常者では尿中クレアチニン排泄量は筋肉量と相関し,尿中3-メチルヒスチジン排泄量の増加は筋肉蛋白の分解の亢進を表すが,腎疾患で糸球体濾過量低下を認める場合には,筋肉量とは無関係にこれらの尿中排泄量排泄が低下するので,栄養状態の指標とすることはできない.〔臨床検査 50:521-523,2006〕
