はじめに

 インヒビンとアクチビンは,卵胞刺激ホルモン(follicle-stimulating hormone;FSH)分泌調節因子として卵巣から単離されたホルモン/増殖因子である.1932年にMcCullaghは下垂体の去勢細胞の出現を抑制する精巣由来の水溶性ホルモンをインヒビンと呼ぶことを提唱した1).その後,卵胞液中にもインヒビン様物質の存在することが報告され,1985年にFSH分泌抑制物質としてインヒビンが2),翌1986年にFSH分泌促進物質としてアクチビンが単離同定された.その後,アクチビンレセプターが同定され,下垂体以外の組織においても細胞の増殖や分化の調節をはじめとする様々な作用を発揮する増殖因子であることが明らかにされている.
