　高齢化社会を迎えてアルツハイマー病(AD)の有病率はますます増えつつあり，ADの予防は極めて重要な研究課題となっている．高血圧をコントロールし，健康的な食生活や規則的な運動を行い，知的活動を持続させることがADの予防に有用であるとされている．ADのアミロイド仮説に基づけば，脳内にアミロイドβ蛋白(Aβ)が病的な蓄積を始める時点を分子イメージングで捉えて抗Aβ療法を行うことが，根本的なAD予防法として期待できる．
