　中皮腫の大部分がアスベスト暴露によることから，形態学的に中皮腫と確定診断された時点で，行政によっても中皮腫と認定される．したがって中皮腫患者の早期診断，早期治療，さらには補償，救済の立場から迅速かつ正確に中皮腫の診断が成されなければならない．本稿では中皮腫を，1．良性：(1)アデノマトイド腫瘍．2．悪性：1) 通常型中皮腫：(1) 上皮型中皮腫　(2) 肉腫型中皮腫(亜型：線維形成型中皮腫)，(3) 二相型中皮腫，2) 特殊型中皮腫：(1) リンパ組織球様中皮腫．(2) 脱落膜様中皮腫．(3) 高分化乳頭状中皮腫　(4) 多囊胞性中皮腫，に分類し，その細胞・組織構築における組織診断の要点について解説した．
